AC450 to AC800M Software Conversion

Our own converter turns ABB™ AC450 applications into AC800M / 800xA projects ready to import — preserving logic, parameters and block positioning.

The service

Migrating an AC450 controller to AC800M by hand means rewriting every control module, I/O signal and connection — a long job, prone to transcription errors.

IT Automation developed an automated converter for AC450 to AC800M migration: it reads the AC450 application and generates the files for the ABB™ 800xA engineering environment, so the team can focus on review, testing and commissioning.

What it does

AAX (AC450)

PCPGM

  • CONTRM
  • FUNCM
  • AND
  • MOTCON
  • ...

+

BAX (I/O)

  • AIR / AXR
  • DIR / DXR

AC800 / 800xA

  • Diagram
  • Variables
  • Function Blocks
  • Connections
  • Pages

From the .AAX and .BAX files, the converter generates .AFW files ready to import into the 800xA engineering environment.

Reads the AAX

Parses the AC450 structured text application: PCPGM programs and their CONTRM, FUNCM, AND, MOTCON and other modules.

Cross-references the BAX

Combines the logic with the BAX I/O configuration, bringing in descriptions, engineering units and alarms for every signal.

Generates AFW files

Produces AFW files with Function Blocks, connections, pages and CommVariables, ready to import into the 800xA engineering environment.

Maps libraries

Automatically maps each block to IT_ProcessLib (IT Automation custom library) or PP_FunctionLib (ABB™ standard).

Libraries

The converted application is built on standardized libraries, chosen according to each project's standard.

LibraryWhen to useUsage
IT_ProcessLibIT Automation custom library for process blocksYes (default)
PP_FunctionLibProjects following the ABB™ standard (Mot01, PID01, etc.)Optional, per project
IT_SupportLibSupport utilitiesAlways loaded
BasicLibBasic logicAlways loaded

Benefits

Logic, parameters and block positioning preserved
I/O descriptions, units and alarms kept from the BAX
Less manual typing and lower risk of transcription errors
AFW files ready to import into 800xA
Application standardized on IT Automation or ABB™ libraries
Shorter engineering time for the migration

How it works

Timelines to be defined according to the application size.

01

Assessment

We receive the AAX and BAX files and analyze the existing AC450 application.

02

Conversion

Automated generation of the AFW files, using the right library for the project.

03

Review and testing

Engineering review of the converted application and testing before going to site.

04

Import and commissioning

Import into the 800xA engineering environment and commissioning support.

Frequently asked questions

What is AC450 to AC800M conversion?

It is the migration of the application from ABB™ AC450 controllers to AC800M controllers on the 800xA system, keeping the plant's control logic, parameters and I/O.

Which files are needed for the conversion?

The AAX files, with the AC450 application, and the BAX files, with the I/O configuration (descriptions, units and alarms).

What does the converter deliver?

AFW files ready to import into the 800xA engineering environment, with Function Blocks, connections, pages and variables.

Are the AC450 logic and parameters preserved?

Yes. Logic, parameters and block positioning are preserved, and the BAX I/O information is kept.

How long does an AC450 conversion take?

Timelines are defined according to the application size, after assessing the files.

Do you work on projects outside Brazil?

Yes. IT Automation works on projects in Brazil and abroad.
